Elements of Mexican and Spanish folk music are used in this uplifting lyrical piece to evoke the interaction of a group of children with nature in their first excursion to a mountain. Playfully scrurrying up and down, they eventually reach the top, where a bird's song beckons them to admire the landscape and the distant sunset.

Duo Fuoco is one of the composer's early endeavors, a petulant, restless work beginning in G minor. Modulating through several keys and themes, them piece only slows to a rest at the end. Complicated rhythms and fast ascending modulating scales contribute to the feeling of nervous energy.

Thematic piece in 3 movements depicting the life cycle of the butterfly. Movement #1 (Caterpillar) is quite melodic evoking a spring morning, the emergence of the caterpillar. Movement #2 (Chrysalis) is quite spooky and chromatic with howling winds along with the caterpillar wrapping itself into a cocoon. Movement #3 (Butterfly) depicts the emergence of the butterfly from the cocoon, the fluttering and drying of the wings and finally it's eruption into glorious flight in a wonderful renaissance-like melody.
