- We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to FLUTE, an email discussion group especially for flutists. FLUTE is hosted using Lsoft LISTSERV software at Syracuse University, with Larry Krantz and Nelson Pardee list owners and John Rayworth as list monitor. FLUTE offers both real time *single postings* as well as daily *digest* format as options to all subscribers. FLUTE currently has the following lists avaliable for subscribers to download: Stolen Flutes List, Flute Professors Roster, Sacred Music for Flute, FLUTE Memorial, FLUTE Scholarships, FLUTE FAQ, Beta Blockers/Performace Anxiety, FLUTE Vendors, and Pronunciation Guide
- The FLUTE list is used as a hub to facilitate and inspire the additional uses of electronic resources to further all areas relating to the flute. For example, the list develops repositories for flute information, brings people together into special interest groups, encourages flute related organizations to provide an electronic presence, and does whatever else the FLUTE list finds useful. The list strives to provide semi-organized mechanisms for input from the list; these proposed activities can only happen as people participate. It is generally advisable to be a "passive reader" (otherwise known as a "lurker") for a week or two, to get a feel for the list's personality, before you start to post messages yourself. Once you become comfortable with it, you'll find yourself with a better sense of its tone and sensibility, and your messages are more likely to "fit in."
- We do guard the privacy of FLUTE list subscribers; more details will be available in the welcome message or from the list owners.
- To subscribe to FLUTE please send email to listserv@listserv.syr.edu with the following line in the email body:
sub flute your name
for example
sub flute Larry Krantz
- You will receive a notification asking you to confirm your request; instructions will be included, but the confirmation is simple. Just reply and type the word "ok" (without the quotes) in your mail body. Don't include the confirmation request in your reply. It's a bit of a pain, but it helps us to keep the subscription database clean, and also helps to keep out spammers.
- Normal delivery will be via single postings. If you wish digest format, after you are fully subscribed you may send the line:
set flute digest
To: listserv@listserv.syr.edu

We do hope to see you on FLUTE!
