ALL messages about list operations should be sent to the list owners only
rather than to the entire list or to any of the list manager private email
addresses.
The list management team requests that message content be confined to
flutes, flute playing, and flute centric activities (piccolos included). General
music topics are not appropriate unless they are about flutes. Messages
about list operation such as using list commands or computer "how to"
should go to the owners at flute-request@listserv.syr.edu, as they are not
flute related. When necessary, the owners will post any such information.
Comments and questions about business deal problems, even if they
involve flutes, are not appropriate for the list. Jokes (not flute related),
personal chit chat or requests for email addresses or phone numbers are
not appropriate.
Quoting just a line or two from the previous message is often enough to
make clear what you are responding to. Also, it's beneficial to remove
header details, signatures, and non-essential text from previous
messages. The resulting crisp, clean postings are easier to read for our
"regular" members, but especially helpful for our digest subscribers and
those who search the logs.
Some list members choose to respond privately rather than to the entire list.
It is often best to reply to those private emails by sending privately to those
individuals rather than send a reply to the entire list.
All emails sent to the list will include the text [FLUTE] in the subject line. It is
safe to assume that if [FLUTE] appears in the subject line of an email then
that email was at one time most likely posted to the entire list.
List posting signatures should be limited to four (4) lines of text. Include
only content deemed important to identify yourself. Signatures are intended
to identify the poster of a message and NOT to be used for advertising
purposes. The list owners will privately work with those who have difficulty
with this policy.
